George 2, because one day is not enough

I had the great honor to meet George Carlin just a few years ago. He did a book signing at Copperfields, in advance of a Luther Burbank show. In fact, after that trip was when he entered re-hab..always thought a bender in Napa might have put him over the brink. That or the crack...but, really, he was such a nice man! OMG..the things people will say to a famous man, it was fun just to stand on line and hear him interact. He told the teenage boy in front of me that he ought to lighten up a little. I think the kid was in awe. I mean, George f-in Carlin. In person. In Petaluma. When it was my turn, he called me Butterfly Girl because of a barrette I had in my hair. I think I made some crack to him about the mute boy before me..I don't really remember..I too was in awe.
Here's a link to one of my all time favorites, the differences between Football and Baseball..classic!

Friday Finds 001

A great love of mine..a hobby, a passion, a time and money killer..whatever you want to call it, but I love to find second hand treasures. My mom and aunts and grandma..etc..are all lifetime junkstore junkies..and I've been passed the torch. So, I thought I would start a weekly feature, showing off some of the goodies I find during the week..or, if it's a slow week, we can go into the archives (ie my frontroom! :)) These are my treasures from yesterday's thrift shop stop..I spent a whole $11.64.

I got a set of cute japanese stoneware dishes, two mugs, two lil plates and two dinner plates..love the turquoise color on the rim!..and I found this cutie pie little squirrel bud vase I splurged on..it was a dollar!

This is the center of an awesome linen tablecloth..and map of New Zealand! I had to have it because the whole border features all of the birds of NZ...love it!

and this pile..well, even the clerk at the store thought I had a very "interesting" selection. I love these sale tags, about 20 of them for 20 cents..I'll be using these for sure! I also found a stack of 5 x 7 index cards for 60 cents..and a gift for me friend Mandy..a set of Wil E Coyote rubber stamps for 75 cents. All in a days thrift...

The Petaluma chapter is having a show at the end of this month, Craftaluma! It will be a sunday, June 29th from noon to 5! I'm so excited!! There will be crafty vendors, music, fortune telling...basically, the "Greatest Craft Show on Earth"..we're aiming high! We're still looking for a few vendors..you can find the application here; http://www.craftaluma.com/. I'll keep you posted and hope to see you there!

How To Stencil a T shirt Video

Here are some up close pictures from my latest youtube video. I titled it how to stencil a t shirt, but I'm really just showing off another use for the Memories Mists spray inks and the Palette Hybrid inks. I do all of these videos sort of on the fly..ie no rehearsal, no script, so who really knows what'll come out of my mouth..and in this one I was kind of vague about the heat setting. But here it is;
1. Tape down stencil or design on a pre washed t shirt or canvas. Pre washing will help take out any sizing or other chemicals that could interfere with the inks. I prewash with a mild detergent and hang dry.
2. Lay stencil or design on dry surface. Tape down the edges to keep stencil from moving. To protect surface from any over spray, cover exposed areas with scratch paper.
3. Spray through image with desired color(s) of Mists. Spray will fly, so be sure you're on top of some scratch paper or inside a spray box.
4. Lift stencil off. For heat setting, basically, the more ink you use, the longer it takes to heat set. But, it normally will take me 3-5 minutes to completely iron set an adult's size t shirt. For an all over spray, so spraying the entire t shirt, I recommend letting it hang dry for a minimum of two hours. It will still be wet to the touch, but ink has been setting in and just needs to be heated to be permanent.
5. I like to wash the shirt for the first time in cool water, no dryer..and then normally after that!

Please leave me a comment or email me if you have any questions!

Spray can shirt close up... another big thank you to Ed at Stencil 1 for the great images!

Canvas bag close up..this one uses the Black (Diet Cola) Memories Mists..

The green shirt was recycled from my closet and stenciled...as were the ben davis's..
