How To Stencil a T shirt Video

Here are some up close pictures from my latest youtube video. I titled it how to stencil a t shirt, but I'm really just showing off another use for the Memories Mists spray inks and the Palette Hybrid inks. I do all of these videos sort of on the fly..ie no rehearsal, no script, so who really knows what'll come out of my mouth..and in this one I was kind of vague about the heat setting. But here it is;
1. Tape down stencil or design on a pre washed t shirt or canvas. Pre washing will help take out any sizing or other chemicals that could interfere with the inks. I prewash with a mild detergent and hang dry.
2. Lay stencil or design on dry surface. Tape down the edges to keep stencil from moving. To protect surface from any over spray, cover exposed areas with scratch paper.
3. Spray through image with desired color(s) of Mists. Spray will fly, so be sure you're on top of some scratch paper or inside a spray box.
4. Lift stencil off. For heat setting, basically, the more ink you use, the longer it takes to heat set. But, it normally will take me 3-5 minutes to completely iron set an adult's size t shirt. For an all over spray, so spraying the entire t shirt, I recommend letting it hang dry for a minimum of two hours. It will still be wet to the touch, but ink has been setting in and just needs to be heated to be permanent.
5. I like to wash the shirt for the first time in cool water, no dryer..and then normally after that!

Please leave me a comment or email me if you have any questions!

Spray can shirt close up... another big thank you to Ed at Stencil 1 for the great images!

Legacy

This is the original text I found online with this picture (I added the color background and text)

Gloria Steinem and Dorothy Pitman Hughes, circa 1970Photograph by Dan Wynn.
"For the four or five years surrounding the birth of Ms., I was traveling and speaking as a team with a black feminist partner: first Dorothy Pitman Hughes, a child-care pioneer, then lawyer Florynce Kennedy, and finally activist Margaret Sloan. By speaking together at hundreds of public meetings, we hoped to widen a public image of the women's movement created largely by its first homegrown media event, The Feminine Mystique.... Despite the many early reformist virtues of The Feminine Mystique, it had managed to appear at the height of the civil rights movement with almost no reference to black women or other women of color. It was most relevant to the problems of the white well-educated suburban homemakers who were standing by their kitchen sinks justifiably wondering if there weren't 'more to life than this.' As a result, white-middle-class movement had become the catch phrase of journalists describing feminism in the United States..., and divisions among women were still deep."

Kitties for cuteness sake

I had request for more kitty pictures. Here's the update. Mac jr, the BIG brother, is taking to new Sylvie quite well. I think he views her like a new catnip mouse..only this "mouse" follows him around, biting his ankles. It'll get better once she's not teething..or fanging..whatever you call that for cats..the above picture is of a new toy we bought for the kitten, and, well, Mac had to be sure that he fit..kinda like tryng to get into you favorite jeans from high school..

Big brother is watching...

yup..this is the back of my neck..I had a crick for two days..but she was soooo comfortable!

Stampbord and Stencil 1

My two favorite things at the moment..Stampbord, Gesso Board..anything from Ampersand!...and the imagery from Stencil 1! A big thanks to Ed! The deer is one of his images..this one is stenciled on an ATC sized piece of Stampboard that had been misted with Memories Mists. There's a little bit of the peacock feather brass stencil from Dreamweaver. All of the white is where I've scratched ink off..one of the nice features of the Stampbord. I have seriously gone nuts with the samples..so many pieces of board laying around my house right now..:)

Sylvie

Introducing the newest member of the Barr family..Sylvie! We just got her yesterday, she's still a little skittish..and our Big Mac jr is not really welcoming her with open paws. They'll be playing together in no time, I hope. :) Here she is sleeping under the dining table, on the same chair where Zoe used to always sleep...weird. :)
